Community Hero Scholarship
Supporting Tomorrow’s Leaders From Midtown Raleigh
MRA is proud to sponsor the Midtown Community Hero Scholarship, a local initiative dedicated to empowering graduating Sanderson High School seniors who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and meaningful community engagement.
The application period typically opens in early March and closes in early April, with finalists notified in mid‑April and interviews held in late April.

About the Scholarship
Each year, the MRA awards a $1,500 one‑year scholarship to a deserving senior to help with college tuition and expenses. This award reflects our belief that strong communities invest in the leaders of tomorrow and help remove financial barriers to higher education.
Launched in 2019, the Midtown Community Hero Scholarship has proudly recognized 13 outstanding Sanderson High School graduates for their academic excellence and commitment to community service.
Who Should Apply
The scholarship is open to seniors who:
- Are on track to graduate from Sanderson High School in the spring
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.5
- Have a proven record of community service and engagement
- Provide a brief written essay and may include a letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach, or counselor
How to Support the Fund
MRA hosts an annual scholarship fund drive and welcomes contributions from individuals and organizations who want to support local students. Although MRA itself is not a 501(c)(3) organization, donors wishing to take a tax‑deductible contribution can give through the Sanderson PTO, the nonprofit partner that administers the scholarship.
Checks should be made out to Sanderson PTO and have ‘MRA Scholarship Fund’ in the memo line.
They can be mailed to:
